What it is
Cold-pressed from the kernels of the argan tree, which grows almost nowhere but southwestern Morocco. Roughly 80% unsaturated fatty acids — chiefly oleic and linoleic — plus one of the highest tocopherol (vitamin E) concentrations of any culinary or cosmetic oil, and a notable sterol fraction including schottenol and spinasterol that most seed oils lack.
Why it matters for changing skin
Falling oestrogen reduces sebum output, and the sebum that remains shifts in composition. Skin that was balanced at 40 can be genuinely dry at 52 — not dehydrated, but lipid-deficient, which is a different problem and needs a different answer. Argan’s fatty acid profile sits close to what skin surface lipids are missing, and its sterol content is the part that distinguishes it from a simple emollient: plant sterols are structurally similar to cholesterol, one of the three lipid classes in the skin barrier.
